Today I was in a mood to write about a prominent news item, so I started browsing through my memory strands for some inspiration. Thought about reservations on which I wanted to express my views since long but it seemed too late to touch upon them, then switched to the social evils I feel strongly about but again it appeared out of context, finally the most prominent piece of news affecting a large chunk of population (barring the soccer fever of course) struck me. As evident from the title, it is “the DU rage”.
Big numbers of small groups of fashionably dressed teenagers with a bundle of forms in their hands is as common a site in the north campus these days as on any news channel. Let me start with the ignition that triggers the rage – results. The number of students getting 90% n above his time left my eyes open in shock (n I thought I was a good student…hmmm ). Nonetheless, the number of students queuing outside DU colleges is a thousand folds higher. This chunk is separate from those 4 Lac (approx.) kids who would do anything to get an engineering degree.
Now, lets look at the factors that drive the excitement, first and the foremost being a promising career (we do have an ambitious young population for sure), not too far behind are the endless hours of “masti”, glamour and romance that sparkle the eyes of a young DU aspirant waiting desperately to enter the world of his fantasy. And yes, an opportunity to be free from the constraints of the school and the home and a chance to explore everything that was way beyond their reach. Then, comes the status tag that a DU brand name gets along. For all the readers, do not be shocked to read the next one – promising matrimonial prospects (read an article mentioning this, the other day).
This form-filling thing is not as bad as it sounds. It is actually an enjoyable trip across colleges, which helps the youngsters color their dreams. They gradually become acquainted with the new culture, the streets, the markets and every new thing that will be a part of their lives for the next three years.
I hope all the DU aspirants get the world of their dreams and make a bright career for themselves.
